1. The Rov Pilot Technicians Course.
This is the practical 3 week hands on training to fly ROV’s. This course is about
half the price of doing it in the UK and includes a BOSIET offshore survival
course.
2. The 3 in 1 Course
This covers Basic Electronics including Fibre Optics/Hydraulics/High voltage.
This is also a 3 week course for non technicians who want to become pilots and
who need a basic background in the subjects mentioned. This course is also
about half the price it costs in the Uk Scottish School offering just basic
electronics and not the Fibre Optics, Hydraulics etc.
All candidates who wish to work offshore anywhere in the world need to have
both a.) And b.) below. Which is why we include it in the Rov Pilot Technicians
course.
a.) Basic Offshore Survival Training to a certain standard such as
OPITO/BOSIET. This trains you in basic first aid, fire fighting, helicopter escape
in water etc. and is required by the oil companies
b.) A medical to a certain standard such as UKOOA which is the UK standard
recognized world wide.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q. I have no electronics or hydraulics knowledge at all, can I just take the
ROV Pilot Technicians Course and not the 3 in 1 course.
A. You can but most Rov companies will want to know that you are competent
working with and understand the basics of ROV related electronics and high
voltage as a minimum. Though it is a fact that some people do get work without
any training in this field.
Q. I am a electronics technician and hold certification do I need to do the 3
in 1 course?
A. No as long as you are competent in electronic fault finding and if needed to
work on hydraulics units you could learn the principals as you are already
technically minded. If though you feel you could do with a top up of knowledge in
either high voltage or hydraulics it may well be worth doing.
Q. Can you assure me I will get work when I finish the course?
A. NO WE CAN NOT. We never promise anyone 100% that they will get work.
This will depend to an extent on how good you are at presenting yourself hard for
work. We will send your CVs to all ROV companies and we also hire ROV pilots
to clients so we can place you. You still need a certain amount of determination
to get that first job. It is always the first job in the oilfield business that is the
hardest. The ROV industry though at the moment is seriously undermanned. The
industry is growing faster than ever. There is a shortage of pilots. The Rov
companies have more new ROV on order now than ever. Companies need new
blood right now.
Q. Do I need to pay a deposit to book a place and how do I pay you and what
amount?
A. Normally you pay 50% deposit to secure a place at your required date and you
need to pay 100% of the total fee to our bank by direct transfer at least 10 days
before the course start date. Our bank details are on the order form attached and
on the internet page. Choose the courses you want from the list add up the
amount and pay the money by direct transfer to our account use your name as
the reference on payment.
Q. What day before the course do I need to arrive and what day do I need to
return?
A. The day before the course start date is sufficient unless you want extra time to
settle in. All courses start on the Monday so you can arrive on a the Sunday.
Q. Where do I need to fly to and will I need a visa?
A. You need to fly to Manila. A visa is issued at entry for UK, Europe, America,
Canada, Australia and some other countries but you may need a visa if coming
from other countries please check with IDESS or the Philippine embassy. We
issue a letter for visa purposes to those who need it. Just tick the order form or if
we know you need a visa we will send one automatically. Visas have never been
refused for any of our delegates.
Q. Can you organize me a flight please?
A. No we suggest you go to www.expedia.com and book a return flight to manila
to arrive 1 day before the course. If you have a flight booked we will never turn
you down due to full course.
Q. Why do you train at IDESS in Subic?
A. IDESS is a great training site to train with ROV's and they also have many
other types of Maritime Training especially the BOSIET/OPITO survival course
which is recognised worldwide.
Please also take a look at their web site to see the training compound and
facilities which simulate a real offshore oilfield environment especially as far as
safety is concerned...
www.idess.com
and of course our own company sites
